Libraries and emergency planning: managing disaster scenarios

Although emergency planning is a major duty for heads of library collections, all too few libraries have contingency plans in place in case of disaster. Emergency plans aim to train all library staff to handle potential threats, minimise the risk of disaster, and act effectively to limit loss and damage to collections. The article also discusses the role of the French Blue Shield Committee and its local branches, and focuses on the emergency plans in place at the Toulouse municipal library.
