The joys and woes of a building contractor: building the next generation of libraries in Paris
The author revisits five years spent working as a site manager and building contractor on projects to restructure and expand existing libraries and and build new library premises in Paris. From investment plans to grand openings via the urban planning process, project launches, studies, and supervising building sites, he discusses the timetable, the various parties involved in the process, the difficulties encountered and overcome, particularly the need to have a holistic vision of the whole network, and what it takes for such projects to come to fruition.
