Preprogramming by a service provider: the example of the Bibliothèque de la Ponatière in Échirolles

The rehabilitation of the Bibliothèque de la Ponatière in Échirolles (near -Grenoble, France) was preceded by a special preprogramming survey carried out by a sociological research institute and an urban development firm. The survey highlighted the singularity of this library, which is outdated in its equipment but modern in the way it operated. This enabled the urban development firm to adapt its preprogramme to the social reality and expectations of the library staff and users, through solutions that run counter to customary practices.
