Libraries and the EU: what opportunities in the coming years?

Although culture is not seen as a priority by European financiers for the period 2007–2013, libraries can develop strategies for the provision of services satisfying the priorities of the European Commission Directorates-General in three domains: the information society, regional policy and education and culture. Community policy and trends thus provide interesting opportunities, particularly in the preservation of cultural diversity, on-line education and training, and information on the possibilities of intra-European mobility and multilingualism.
