The French and North-American academic libraries: prolegomena to a comparative study
The author provides a overview of the French publications regarding statistical evaluation in academic libraries, and of the Enquête statistique générale auprès des bibliothèques universitaires. He contrasts the latter with the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Statistics. He envisions the development of a common statistical model for comparing French and North American academic libraries, and the creation of a joint French/North American working group about the subject. He proposes an additional statistical measure: the «user satisfaction» now coming into use in US research libraries.
