Self-education at the Public Information Library (Bpi)

The Bpi of the year 2000 has set out to offer, and use to the full, new services aimed at a wide variety of users. Self-education is one of these; its objective is to help the public to begin to learn, to update their skills, and to develop a more positive view of the new conditions for "lifelong learning". Thus, from office automation to French as a foreign language or dictation, from the highway code to the study of Chinese, introduction to the Internet or to learning Arabic, the numbers of the interested public are increasing all the time. They educate themselves solely with the help of multimedia documents, with neither tutor nor trainer; but the ordinary library staff are always ready to guide them in their choices and to resolve any technical difficulties they may encounter.
