Meeting the challenge of diversity at the Queens Library

Queens Library in New York City serves over 2.3 million people in the most diverse county in the United States. Individuals and families come from more than 120 different countries and speak more than 180 languages and dialects. The Queens Borough Public Library has designed collections, programs, services, and electronic access that allow people to experience the public library using whatever their first language might be as well as helping them acculturate to the United States. The author describes the vast array of services developed and provided by the Library making it one of the most unique educational institutions in America today.
