A conservation plan: implementation at the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire de Lausanne

Twelve years ago the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire de Lausanne launched a general plan of preservation/conservation for all of its collections. This plan is based on an original concept, that of a level of conservation applied to every work that comes into the library. At the same time procedures of weeding and of making microfilm copies have been set up. An indispensable corollary of a good policy of preservation, the defining of an acquisitions policy, is well on the way for all the collections, and is now awaiting the formalisation of a policy for services.
