University libraries: a look at changes

If the resources and activity of French university libraries have noticeably increased since the publication of the Miquel report in1989, this improvement should not mask the numerous changes that characterise these services. In another context, marked notably by the support of new information technologies, the tasks of collaborative services of documentation and of inter-library services of documentary cooperation have not changed, and have even become more strategic within universities. On the other hand, the conditions for carrying out these specific tasks are experiencing a profound upheaval, with notably the emergence of electronic resources, a new conception of the buildings, new services for users, changes in the organisation of services and a transformation of professional skills.
