Towards the Renascence of the National Library of Lebanon

Put into dormancy during the war (1975 to 1990), the National Library of Lebanon is now the object of a project of reinstallation. Faced with the urgent need to salvage the residual collections, put a genuine documentation policy to work, and develop a programme for the future of the establishment, the Culture Minister is prepared to create a Technical Centre of the National Library. At the same time, a Foundation will be born whose goal will be to acquire financial aid, both in Lebanon and abroad, with which to augment the budget foreseen by the State. Full cooperation will be desirable, and particularly that which must be developed between Lebanese libraries. The political will exists to bring back to this library its past splendour all inscribed in the scene of information for the 21st century.
