French Libraries for Youth: Topical Questions

Librarians working in children's sections of libraries are raising questions about their future and that of their libraries. Among the range of questions posed currently, the author of this article has chosen to develop certain points: the organization and the diversity of reading locations for the young, the reception of the public, certain aspects of the constitution of collections (recordings, foreign language books, etc.), initial training of personnel almost non-existant since the disappearance of the CAFB (Certificat d'aptitude aux fonctions de bibliothécaire), the definition of the functions and the specifics of the field with regard to other professionals working with books or children.
