The Training of the Users of the University Library of Toulon and Var
In 1996, the university of Toulon and Var put in place, in each faculty, training in documentation methodology for all first year students. The account of this experiment allows us to bring out several important points: a federative process built around the struggle against failure, better integration of the Service commun de la documentation in the university, better use of documentary resources by students. It also reveals weak points: organizational difficulties, but above all insufficient mobilization of subject teachers in order to define the contents and supervise the tutors. The impact of this experiment on the success rate of students is not yet assessable. On the other hand, a fundamental question is raised: what place do librarians occupy, or should they occupy, in the pedagogical purview of the university?
