Choose Web Servers Carefully

By mid-1998, 432 libraries and documentation centres had acquired a Web server. With 28 servers available, the organizations not already equipped now have a varied choice. Three types of technical solution are possible: the Web server connected to a management system and adapted to the opac Intranet, the Web server conceived by another supplier, or the Web server completely independent of the management system. The service project for choosing the best technical solution, then the best Web server must be precise, preliminary reflection is even more important since the functions offered vary considerably from one server to another and the cost of the operation frequently passes 100 000 FF.
