The Upper Garden Level at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France : The « Science and Technology » Section

In the new building at Tolbiac, the BnF grants an important place to science and technology, reviving the encyclopaedic tradition that it had been forced to abandon. As a complement to the lower garden level, which will open in 1998, the Science and Technology Reading Room is one of the components of the new open space on the upper level. Collections drawn from all scientific disciplines are available, with free access offered to a varied public : advanced students, professionals, researchers wishing to explore other disciplines than their own, and an educated public. The article concludes with a brief description of the disciplines and of various types of documents, as well as the services offered in the reading room.
