The « glocalised » library
Encyclopaedic purpose is subjected to various criticisms in public libraries. Are the spread of knowledge and the multiplication of text conditions opposed to an humanist conception of culture, or simply higher than input/output abilities of library science ? For limited documentary funds, as local or specialized ones, analysis shows that usual cataloguing is also inadequate. A descriptive collecting policy, according to existing documentary units or publics, could allow the adjustment of technical choices to library priorities.
