Prices of services in libraries of towns of more than 100 000 inhabitants

To see the difference between the speech about free libraries and real practices, the Montpellier public library has realized, from March to June 1994, a survey towards the 33 libraries situated in towns of more than 100.000 inhabitants. One can find several tariff choices : the exceptional total free public libraries, the frequency of the exemption for some categories of users, the different tariffs according to the types of readers, etc. The modular use of the services by a subscription with card or passport have difficulty in being imperative. A policy of priees of services on a national scale is hardly detectable at the moment.
