The programme digitalization at the Bibliothèque de France
Computers are expected to play a major role in the Bibliothèque de France project. A significant number of books will be stored in digital format, and these machine readable texts will be available on computer-aided reading work stations facilitating access to documents and providing innovative electronic tools for scholarly research. The « BDF » plans to connect member libraries to these electronic files. In 1996, there will be about 100 000 digitalized volumes, selected as being representative of the national heritage of French literature and of works of reference in the humanities. Scientists in linguistics and computer technologies are associated with the programme.
