Networking informatics

In 1981, five libraries specialized in informatics - the main one is the library of INRIA in Rocquencourt -gathered in a network, in answer to information needs. They manage several databases (books, periodicals, reports, etc.) ; the structure is flexible and the network is not subjected to a central authority. Each site chooses its own access mode : either to the local collection (which contains only the entries of the library) or to the main stock (which covers the entries of all the sites). In addition to the shared cataloguing, the system provides orders, loan and interlending tasks.
