The Construction of the central lending libraries : their aim.

The buildings of the central lending libraries : analysis of their development from the official programs and instructions. The first buildings, tightly bound with the university libraries, have been erected only in the middle of the years 50, that is 10 years after the creation of the services. The idea of networks integrating differentiated equipments (central and branch libraries) grew up only in 1966/67, but remained restricted. Between 1946 and 1980, the surfaces have increased and have been modulated according to the size of the population. The structure of the buildings follows the technical and development functions (reception, training courses, exhibitions, meetings) : the sign of it being first a better finished architecture and then the polyvalent rooms. The newly defined tasks of the central lending libraries (circular of the lrst August 1985) should lead to a transformation of the programmes.
