Film and scientific culture today : an experiment

The article studies the scientific popularization films and gives the first results of an experiment meant to improve their impact and dissemination. Most of the films are shown within the teaching area and are used either as a pedagogic medium, or as a way of pictorial writing. Their main defects : they are too long and talkative, overloaded with information, and bear an endless competition between sound and picture. It appears that films on the exact sciences are dwelling much more on the description of techniques than on the scientific explanation itself. Instead of spreading some simplified knowledge, the films should answer the public's main questions and take the common knowledge into consideration while explaining the scientific knowledge. Two films have been produced according to these assumptions (one on energy and another one on the origins of life).
