American medical libraries, network organization : October-November 1977

In order to study the organization of medical libraries network and interlibrary lending, it was necessary to visit 24 libraries in five medical regions in the United States. The medical libraries network is built like a pyramid with the National Medical Library (Bethesda) at the top. It is a resource sharing network with four levels in which most requests for loans can be dealt with in the basic unit library (local level), or in the regional medical library
