Booksellers, mediation and skill sets

The article draws on a presentation given at the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information in 2009 on the bookseller’s role as cultural mediator, focusing on the various facets of the role and the skills it requires. Christian Thorel discusses how booksellers select the works they sell, how they use the space of the bookshops, and how they interact with customers, highlighting the added value they offer over and above online bookshops.
