The Bibliothèque publique d’information (BPI, public information library) is “invaded” between April and June every year by final year pupils studying for their bac (final exams). These occasional users are unfamiliar with the unspoken rules of library conduct and as such their needs and practices are in competition with those of regular readers. The BPI has made efforts to reconcile the two groups, introducing the “Objectif bac” programme to improve conditions for both categories of reader, offering dedicated work spaces, bibliographies, a different way of allocating seats, individual help from librarians, and so on.
