A glimpse of the libraries of the future in Germany

The future of Germany’s libraries appears bright. They have succeeded in developing considerable on-line services and digital libraries and their contribution to education and research has been acknowledged. The concept of the Q-thek is developing in public libraries, while ever more programmes are being launched to open libraries up to immigrant communities and schools. Far from having reached the end of their useful lives, as was being argued ten years ago, libraries are undergoing something of a renaissance as books (and other media) expand into the digital realm.
