Intercultural programmes in German libraries: trends and future perspectives

A federal group of experts specialising in intercultural programmes in libraries was founded in Germany in June 2006. This article presents the aims of the group, together with a look at progress made to date. It also describes features of the programmes, including the creation and presentation of collections, multilingual and intercultural provisions, library participation in intercultural programmes at the local community level, as well as social integration and reading promotion schemes.
