Using the new BPI: the reorganisation of the floor space and collections, 2000-2008

The complete reorganisation of the floor space at the Bibliothèque publique d’information in 2000 aimed to solve the problem of the library’s confusing layout, caused by the size of collections and frequently crowded conditions, particularly due to large numbers of students. The plan was to improve visibility in the various sections and clarify the classification system. Following the work of reorganisation begun in 2004 and a comparison with libraries in the Netherlands, the preliminary appraisal indicates that while some objectives have been achieved, it would be preferable to reintroduce diversity and flexibility back into the library.
