“Hush! You’re making too much noise!” Silence in the library today

Noise in a library is inevitable. A major concern is to intervene in the architectural design of these sites to provide sound proofing of the floor, walls and ceiling and to isolate areas of social exchange. It is also possible to encourage users to be silent when fitting-out these areas, through the choice of materials and colour; and by continuing to raise awareness of the issue. However, it must not be forgotten that the library is also a social space.
