Libraries and architects: libraries in L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui

The example given in the magazine L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui (AA) is revea-ling about architects’ conceptions of libraries, in which they display an uneven interest. Their image of libraries is one of immobility; even of boredom. If the construction of the French National Library saw the beginning of a gradual change, architects still rely on the lack of a programme, real or imaginary for libraries, in preference for architectural considerations, aesthetics and urbanization to the detriment of librarianship and functional considerations.
