The conservation of print on paper: the state of play of the evolution of techniques and strategies

After a brief history of the emergence twenty-five years ago of concerns rela-ting to the conservation of print on paper documents in French libraries, the authors describe the evolution of techniques, strategies and mindsets, using examples taken from the French National Library. There has been a move from the technical approach to a global, preventative approach, the "preventive conservation" or "preservation". Their reflections are completed by inserts on mass deacidification, conservation standards, different types of a paper for conservation, quality control of materials and a selective bibliography.
