Public Libraries: in favour of a new visibility
The public library today is threatened by two dangers: on the one hand the blurring of its identity - due to the commonplaceness of the place and the multitude of similar municipal amenities; and on the other hand the upheaval in cultural practices due to the generalization of digital technology in accessing information. The library needs to regain its visibility by providing access to knowledge through advanced technology to a wider public, which also implies an evolution in the role of the librarian.
