A code of ethics for librarians

On 23 March 2003 the national council of the ABF adopted a code of ethics for librarians to unite the members of the profession and to guide them in their work. It establishes their duties, particularly the unconditional respect for users, and maintains that their professional responsibility must be endorsed, especially by State and local councillors. The article reprints the text of the code and explains why and how it has been developed.
