The fruit, the contents and the packaging: from the illuminated parchment to the digital file (liberfloridus.cines.fr)

October 2002 has seen the opening up of Liber floridus. This site, devoted to medieval illuminated manuscripts in higher education libraries, offers to the research community an iconographic corpus accompanied by scientific exploitation tools. In addition, it guarantees the security of the original manuscripts and promotes a unique patrimony for the benefit of a huge public. Liber floridus displays on entry the entirety of the illuminations of the Sainte-Geneviève library and the Mazarine library. The task of indexing will be completed by the end of 2004. In the longer term, the site will be integrated with other collections
