Librarians for young people and education: three proposals

The current shortcomings in training of librarians in the specialised area of young people prompts a redefining of missions and practical details of the functioning of these services and a rethinking of training. To structure the organisation of training so as to confront the new realities of reading - rapport with the book being at the heart of thinking; to extend criss-cross reading policies so as to link up all kinds of library; and to modify usage practices in order to open up and enlarge training to the whole range of staff, all the services being affected by this approach, such are the stakes and expectations of a proportion of the profession.
