A Publishing Library: the Example of the Bibliothèque nationale de France

The editorial activities of the Bibliothèque nationale de France lie within the continuation of a long bibliographical tradition that is mingled with the history of the institution and its missions in conservation and communication. Confronted today with new challenges resulting from changes in the scale of the library, economic constraints and new technology, the publications of the BnF will follow diversification into any media supports available in the future, from paper and Web, on to CD-ROMs, so as to respond to the demands of specialists, all facilitating access for the greatest number to patrimonial collections.
