The « Upper Garden » Several Months After Opening

The conditions under which the opening of the general public level, called the « Upper garden », of the BnF at Tolbiac, was decided upon, and then prepared for, are resituated in both the political context and the context of the internal mobilisation. From preliminary working descriptions (organization, collections) a first review followed, relating to the assessment of the resources of the library. The following milestones are then touched upon : the development of collections and services in the « Upper garden » to autumn 1997, then the opening of the common research level in 1998. From this perspective, the communication policy of the library will take into account the changing landscape of Parisian libraries.
