After a five centuries'boom, the era of the book comes to an end. The codex, that complete, reliable and repeatable object, no longer enjoys its key position : that of an interface between the private and the public fields regulating the formation and circulation of distributive knowledge. On the other hand, rooted in the digital continuum and ceaselessly feeding on new devices, « textuality » spreads more and more. Having broken away from its traditional medium and socializing areas, the very action of reading has become the reference to a new way of managing sense (from economical, political and philosophical points of view). It is necessary to find a new definition of a public field to balance the current tendency to scatter and split things up.
