Thoughts about applied standardization
This paper tries to show how an international standard, just completed, can be used for the implementation of a project co-financed by the Commission of the European Communities, the ION project (Interlending OSI Network). The notions of profile, or functional standard, are explained, the challenges are identified, and the parallel ways of working are clearly defined. Thus can it be shown that standardization is no more a mere abstract notion.
