The acquisition chantier and policy at the Bibliothèque nationale

Amongst the functions of a national library, the coverage of foreign literature was discussed since the 1958 Unesco symposium on national libraries in Europe, in Vienna. The Bibliothèque nationale could not maintain its encyclopædic ambition since the end of the 19th century. The Bibliothèque de France resumes that tradition with the aim of a moderate encyclopædic coverage. The « chantier Acquisitions » of the BN takes place from a double point of view : owing to it, BN is able to purchase more scholarly literature in its traditional humanistic fields ; it is also a piece of the new acquisition policy of the Bibliothèque de France.
