Boston Public libraries' network

Boston public library, which was founded in 1854 is the oldest one in the United States. The enlargement of the library's collections reflects the extension of the city itself. The article focuses on the various functions of the library, the extension of its activities and its adjustment to an urban environment. It then develops the aspect of the administrative organization inside the library ; job description is analyzed. The cooperation in the library network uniting libraries of the area East of Massachusetts is also studied
