Libraries for all: Learning good citizenship

The article draws on qualitative data from a survey of socially marginalised users at the Pompidou Centre's Bibliothèque Publique d'Information to analyse the extent to which a library open to all is not only a space offering access to knowledge and culture, but also a site offering social contact and the opportunity to learn good citizenship. Library attendance is one way for such users to reverse the process of social marginalisation.
