Collections and borrowers
There is often a significant discrepancy between the collections on offer in libraries and the actual use made of collections by readers. A survey of some fifty libraries reveals strong trends in terms of the number of times a document is borrowed depending on the medium, the section it is available in, and the readers it is on offer to. This in turn indicates that there is often a significant disparity between what readers want and what librarians offer them.
