The meaning of commemoration: the Great War at the Bibliothèque de Documentation Internationale Contemporaine

Commemorating the First World War brings together individual and collective strands of history and memory. Different countries have commemorated the event in different ways, while the same is true of various institutions within France itself. Opening the commemorations up to the digital realm has added a new dimension: the BDIC (International Contemporary Documentation Library), whose own history is closely bound up with that of the Great War, has put together a programme of events that draw on and expand the library's initial remit, making the most of its collections by engaging in educational outreach, training and research.
