Guy Saez offers a detailed exploration of the complicated nature of projects promoting popular culture launched after the liberation of Nazi-occupied France, characterised as they were by mutual mistrust and disapproval despite their similarities. He also explores the institutional discourse surrounding the notion of cultural democratisation and how the projects were implemented.
