University libraries and competition, or how libraries need to learn to communicate

University libraries across France are currently facing a number of sources of competition. Vast quantities of information are freely available on the internet. At the same time, the universities they belong to are themselves in competition following the implementation of a new law governing the freedoms and responsibilities of universities. Libraries have no choice but to develop their own communication strategies in liaison with the wider strategy developed by their home university. Simply organising events on site and sending out information is no longer enough.
