The accelerating book

Hartmut Rosa's writings on social acceleration theorise one of the major experiences of modernity. While his argument is not directly linked to the arrival of e-book devices and digital reading, it is useful to draw on it as the basis for an exploration of the potential impact and consequences of digital reading. In this sense, e-book devices are "magical objects" that reflect the modern world's crisis of time management, although it cannot be stated with certainty that using such devices will definitely lead to a rise in reading time or quality, even if they do appear set to take over the market in the medium term.
