Cultural mediation: the point of contact between museums and libraries

Museums and libraries are working more closely together than ever before to bring their collections to as wide an audience as possible. It is vital to work towards convergence in such institutions with similar remits, through their role as cultural mediators. Cultural mediation is the key intermediary between the public, the site, and the collections in libraries and museums, but such institutions must reconcile meeting the expectations of various sectors of the public with their mission to conserve their holdings. Many cultural mediation projects have been implemented, with new information and communication technologies taking on an ever more prominent role.
