Surveying meaning

The proposals put forward by multimedia libraries to improve services to readers do not seem to take full account of surveys of readers' cultural habits. Is this due to mere oversight on the part of librarians, or can it be attributed to a refusal to acknowledge the results or an inability to understand the results? At a time when so-called "legitimate" culture is undergoing a process of desacralisation and individualism is on the increase, it would be advisable to study changes in readership patterns more thoroughly in order to respond to their needs. One possible solution would be to introduce new training methods -ideally in conjunction with other cultural outreach practitioners- with a view to analysing reader profiles as a means of identifying new priorities, redefining key areas for intervention, and introducing new cultural outreach activities.
