Evaluating collections at the University Paris-Est Créteil Val-de-Marne Library (Upec)

Evaluating library collections at UPEC (formerly Université Paris 12) was a key step in drawing up plans to develop the collection (PDC, plan de développement des collections). This article describes the process, from the requirements necessary prior to evaluation to drawing up an initial level of development plan for each field of study. It looks at the impact of the evaluation process on the daily routine of acquisitions staff and the strategic aspects of such plans in a context of de-ring-fencing of budgets as imposed by the new law on rights and responsibilities of universities (LRU, loi relative aux libertés et responsabilités des universités), which devolves financial responsibility to individual universities.
