A performance contract at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF)

Developing, piloting, and following up performance contracts is all part of the general trend in public policy towards evaluation, as laid out in the LOLF. While performance contracts draw on specific indicators as their main evaluation tool, they do nonetheless also offer a wider set of evaluation practices which can be integrated into the BnF’s wider functions to guarantee the quality of the evaluation process. Taking the performance contract as the starting point for her discussion, the author presents the evaluation process through concrete examples, both in terms of research and reception as fields of activity and the development and implementation of indicators and statistics as evaluation tools.
