The “long march” of universities and their information resource services: risks and opportunities

The new law on research, the loi organique relative aux lois de finances (LOLF, or organic law relating to the financial laws), and the LRU have all fundamentally changed the way French universities work, and, by extension, their SCDs. The requirement to improve personnel management means that universities will have to become much more managerial in approach, while improving the offer of information resources means librarians will play a more active and inclusive role in university life, now and as significant stakeholders in their future development.
